Our Membership

CAAHP is composed of professionals from colleges and universities.  We are faculty and administrators; we are full-time and part-time advisors; we advise for one profession or for the entire spectrum of health professions.  Yet, we share a common bond of being advisors for the health professions in the twelve-state region (Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin).

Membership

Application for membership in CAAHP is made through the National Association of Advisors for the Health Professions (Click here). 

There are two categories of membership:

1. Advisor Membership - $125 
   ($110 - NAAHP membership + $15 CAAHP dues)
   
2. Associate Membership - $100 
   ($85 – NAAHP membership + $15 CAAHP dues)

 

Associate membership is essentially a “volume discount” for institutions with more than one health professions advisor. NAAHP provides Associate members with all the benefits of Advisor members. However, some health professions education associations may limit access to information about applicants from your school to Advisor members only.

Governance
A fourteen member Board of Directors, elected by the membership, govern the CAAHP.  Board members serve a three-year term.  The participation of members in candidacy for election to the CAAHP Board is welcome.

Participation
CAAHP members are encouraged to participate at annual meetings and in committee work for the organization, providing input that will help strengthen the advising of Prue-health professions students.  Some of the committees of CAAHP include electronic media committee, publications committee, and the regional conference planning committee.

Resources for Advisors
 

Annual Conferences National (NAAHP) meetings are held during even years (i.e. 2008, 2010, etc.).  Regional meetings (CAAHP) are held during odd years (2007, 2009, etc.).  The host city changes for each meeting to permit all members an equal opportunity for attendance. The meetings include presentations from health profession practitioners and panels and discussions specifically related to health professions advising. Web Page The web page contains the latest CAAHP newsletter, a list of members on the Board of Directors, and links to NAAHP and many health professions web sites. http://www.caahp.org/ Newsletter The newsletter keeps members up-to-date on upcoming meetings, reviews key topics on health professions advising, and tracks the progress of regional and national initiatives.

Mentoring Program New health professions advisors are paired with veteran advisors. National Publications Subscription (included in the membership dues) to The Advisor and national publications which discuss hot topics of interest to health professions advisors. Listserv Access to the national health professions listserv, where health professions advisors and health professions admissions personnel share ideas. Health Advisors Reference Material Access to the Premedical Advisors Reference Manual, which contains thorough information about admissions policies and procedures at U.S. and Canadian medical schools, as well as access to other publications useful in health professions advising.
